Attempting to add a new iCloud account to the Mail app only prompted me to sign in with my Apple ID (which I tried using the iCloud address, only to have it set up as the main Apple ID Gmail address again). I couldn't find a way to add the new iCloud address. However, when I create a new message on the Mail app, I realized that it only had my Apple ID Gmail address there.
I added it and could receive emails sent to the iCloud address AND the custom domain address I had set up.
